what we do
We Provide a Forum to Explore Pathways to Healing: We are traditional Eeyouch (Crees) with a vision to improve the overall health and well-being of our people and the community. The Sundance provides a forum for community members explore and find ways to improve and maintain their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. The Sundance is the place to learn to deal with difficult life challenges. The support is there.
Aftercare: We provide aftercare through one-on-one counselling, group therapy sessions, healing workshops, and spiritual ceremonies. We provide support for our Sundancers and their families who wish to change their lives for the better.
Land-based Healing Journeys: We also encourage land-based journeys for people to learn and practice ancestral survival skills, and keep the spirit of Eeyou culture strong.
Storytelling: As our ancestors have done since time immemorial, we encourage our Sundancers, people who come to the Sundance for healing, particularly, our youth to listen to Elders teachings through storytelling and to learn the legends. Our Elders teach us that each legend points to an aspect of our being to be developed to become the best human being that one can be. The teachings about the past, the present and the future are embedded in the legends.
NOTE: We get full support of, and work closely, with the Cree health institution the Cree Board of Health & Social Services of James Bay.
